Camp Nurses

Friends Camp is seeking Registered Nurses or Nurse Practitioners to work as the Camp Nurse for a week or two each during the 2026 summer. Nurses support camper health by administering medication, assessing campers, and treatment according to our Standing Orders. They are a valued member of the camp community, helping keep campers and staff safe and healthy. Nurses can be compensated via either payment or free camp tuition for their child. See the FAQs below for more details. Our Health Hut Director Sue, who is also a Nurse, supports weekly nurses with training, consultation, and preparing for each session. We have additional Health Hut Counselors (Wilderness First Responders) who work in the Health Hut, too.

Camp Nurse FAQs

  • Each nurse will work for a week or two. We are still currently figuring out our schedule and are happy to speak to any candidates about their availability, but we are especially looking for nurses during Week 1 of Jones (6/21 - 6/26), Week 1 of Rustin (7/19 - 7/24), and both weeks of Fell (8/2 - 8/14).

  • Nurses receive compensation of $1,000-$1,200 per week, or tuition for one full two-week camp session for your child, valued at $1,860.

  • Yes, and Maine is an NLC state (nursing compact). If you have a license in a state that is not in the NLC, we can help you look into getting your Maine license.

  • Generally, camp nurses are on call for their full week of camp. They have hours in the health hut (or otherwise floating nearby at camp) from 7:30 am - 1:30 pm, and 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm. These hours are negotiable based on your specific situation and needs.

  • Yes! Camp Nurses are known for being fun! Nurses are welcome to share in camp meals and activities as their schedule allows. We want you to feel like part of the community, because you are.

  • If you have a child attending camp, you do not need to attend at the same time as them. If you do wish to attend at the same time as your child, we will help you set boundaries so that you can both enjoy the best of camp.

  • If you would like to commute to camp each day, that is an option. Please ask us about options; we could be flexible with your hours if you wish to commute.

If you wish to stay at camp, you will have housing in a room by yourself. All our housing is somewhat rustic.

  • Generally, no, sorry. Ask us if you think you have a special situation!

  • Please fill out a Nurse application after clicking the “staff login” button at the top of our website. Please feel free to reach out to director@friendscamp.org or 207-877-4302 at any time with questions.
